Soil Mechanics Special Inspector Course Overview


Through ICC Credentialing, the ICC Soil Mechanics (ECC) certification identifies individuals with a broad knowledge base of soil testing, grading, and limitations.

ICC ECC thoroughly covers the work site preparation, the surveys involved with planning, and foundations. Additionally, this certification will ensure you are familiar with laboratory limitations such as Gradiation, Atterberg, and Triaxial Compression Tests. This certification is used in nearly all construction projects worldwide. 

This 50-hour Soils Inspector Certification Course comprises 12 lessons, 12 instant feedback quizzes, 3 quiz banks, and a final exam with a question bank of more than 210 questions. Upon completion of the course, the student will receive a certificate of completion from Atlas training ™.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SOILS SPECIAL INSPECTOR CERTIFICATION: 

1. Pass the GR - Special Inspector General Requirements Exam OR hold an active ICC Special Inspector Certification 

2. Pass the ECC – Soils Codes Exam 

3. Pass the ECP – Soils Plans Exam ​

Credentials are valid for three (3) years and must be renewed on or before the expiration date to remain current.

Accruing CEUs

During the three (3) year period prior to the renewal processing date, you must accrue the number of continuing education units (CEUs) required for your certificate. Renewal is achieved by participating in continuing education and professional development activities. For example, a seminar you attended to earn CEUs must have been within the three (3) years prior to the renewal processing date (when the CEU becomes inactive).

You may renew your credentials at different times, but each renewal date is treated as a separate application. For example, if you have six credentials and renew two certifications on X date and four certifications on Y date, you must have 3.0 CEUs for X date and a 3.0 additional CEUs for Y date. 

Note: You must keep documents and records of each activity during the three (3) year renewal period. CEU applications are subject to random audits. If proof of CEUs cannot be provided, the renewal will be voided and your certifications will revert to their previous status.
